Bio
Dr. Israel Sanz-Sánchez has worked at WCU since 2009. He teaches Spanish and Linguistics courses, and currently (as of 2022) serves as the Linguistics Program Director. His research focuses on the history of dialect and language contact in the Americas, the Spanish colonial documentary record in the US Southwest, and the history of Spanish in the United States. His recent work focuses on the results of various forms of acquisition in the phonology and morphology of early colonial varieties of Spanish. His contributions have appeared in several edited volumes and in journals (e.g. Diachronica, Hispania, Spanish in Context, Transactions of the Philological Society, Journal of Historical Linguistics). He is also one of the editors of the Journal of Historical Sociolinguistics.
